Workshop
Improv
Whose story is it? How can YOU serve that story?
We tell stories all the time in improv, yet most improvisers have put little time into understanding how stories work. This workshop is an amalgamation of useful story theory garnered over a lifetime and adapted for how we collectively tell stories in improv. In this workshop, we will look at just what makes a compelling protagonist, and how you know if you are it. In novels, plays, and movies, we know from the start who the protagonist is. In improv we don’t, that is discovered as we go. Then we move on to how we can design a cast around the protagonist so we can tell complex and compelling stories. We explore how story roles and archetypes, genre and setting help define our options. Cast design is not only useful for improvisers but anyone who is looking to tell engaging and entertaining stories.
